The Dial Society Community Rules
Welcome to The Dial Society — a community built around a shared passion for watches, horology, collecting, craftsmanship, and thoughtful discussion.
Our goal is to maintain a welcoming, respectful, and high-quality community for enthusiasts at every level of the hobby. By participating in The Dial Society community, participants agree to follow these rules and respect the spirit in which they are intended.
Community Membership Status
For purposes of these Community Rules, the terms “member” and “community member” refer solely to participation in The Dial Society community.
Community membership does not constitute membership in, ownership of, or any legal, equity, voting, financial, or other ownership interest in The Dial Society LLC.
Community participation is a revocable privilege and does not create a contractual right to continued participation or access.
1. Share the Passion for Watches
Posts should contribute to the community’s interest in watches and horology. We encourage:
* Watch photos and wrist shots
* Collection highlights
* New acquisitions
* Watch history and education
* Technical and movement discussions
* Reviews and personal ownership experiences
* Questions and advice from fellow enthusiasts
* Constructive conversations about brands, models, design, pricing, and collecting
Members are encouraged to share their enthusiasm, knowledge, and experiences and help others enjoy the hobby.
2. Treat Every Member With Respect
Keep discussions civil and respectful, even when opinions differ.
Personal attacks, harassment, bullying, insults, threats, excessive hostility, trolling, personal ridicule, intimidation, or deliberately inflammatory behavior are not permitted.
Disagreement about a watch, brand, price, collecting philosophy, dealer, or opinion is perfectly acceptable. Disrespect toward another member is not.
Debate the subject, not the person.
3. No Inappropriate or Offensive Content
The Dial Society is intended to be an appropriate community environment.
Do not post sexually explicit material, graphic content, hateful material, discriminatory remarks, excessively vulgar content, or anything reasonably considered offensive or inappropriate for the group.
Content primarily intended to provoke controversy, create conflict, intimidate members, or disrupt the community may also be removed.
4. No Promotion of Outside Dealers or Commercial Sellers
To protect the purpose and integrity of The Dial Society, members may not use the community to promote outside watch dealers, competing sellers, commercial marketplaces, or similar businesses.
This includes:
* Links to other dealers’ websites or sales listings
* Screenshots or reposts of another dealer’s inventory or sales posts
* Promotional posts from competing watch businesses
* Links intended to direct members to another dealer or seller
* Repeated references designed primarily to advertise another business
* Soliciting members on behalf of an outside dealer, seller, marketplace, or commercial business
* Using membership in The Dial Society to privately solicit members for outside commercial transactions
This rule is not intended to prohibit legitimate discussion about dealers, market pricing, watch availability, past transactions, or member experiences when relevant to a genuine watch-related conversation. The distinction is discussion versus promotion or solicitation.
Educational references may be allowed at the discretion of the administrators when they genuinely contribute to a discussion and are not promotional in nature.
5. No Unapproved Advertising or Self-Promotion
Commercial advertising, solicitation, affiliate links, referral links, promotional codes, and business promotion require prior administrator approval.
Members should not use The Dial Society primarily as a marketing channel or to redirect members to outside businesses, groups, pages, platforms, social-media accounts, or commercial services.
This applies to public posts and comments as well as unsolicited private messages directed to members because of their participation in The Dial Society.
6. Keep Posts Relevant
Please keep posts reasonably related to watches, horology, collecting, or The Dial Society community.
Occasional off-topic conversation may be permitted, but repetitive unrelated content, spam, engagement bait, disruptive posting, or posts primarily intended to create controversy may be removed.
7. Be Honest and Authentic
Do not intentionally misrepresent watches, transactions, ownership, pricing, authenticity, condition, provenance, or other material facts.
When discussing a watch you do not own or posting content belonging to someone else, provide appropriate context where necessary.
Members should never intentionally mislead others regarding the authenticity, condition, provenance, ownership, pricing, or material history of a watch.
Knowingly presenting counterfeit, altered, or materially misrepresented watches as authentic is grounds for immediate removal.
8. Do Not Spam or Improperly Solicit Members
Repeated posts, duplicate content, excessive promotions, unsolicited solicitations, or attempts to dominate the group feed may be removed.
Members may not use access to The Dial Society community or its membership to engage in repeated unsolicited private solicitations, commercial outreach, harassment, or other conduct that interferes with another member’s reasonable enjoyment of the community.
Administrators may limit posting or community access when activity becomes disruptive to the overall community experience.
9. Respect Privacy
Do not publicly share another person’s private information, private messages, addresses, phone numbers, financial information, or other sensitive information without permission.
Do not post screenshots of private conversations involving another member without that person’s permission, except when privately providing information to administrators for moderation, investigation, safety, or legal purposes.
Disputes involving individual members should generally be brought privately to the administrators rather than turned into public confrontations.
10. Whistleblower and Good-Faith Reporting Protection
Members are encouraged to privately report suspected rule violations, misconduct, fraud, harassment, inappropriate solicitation, dishonest transactions, threats, or other conduct that may harm The Dial Society or its members.
Reports should be made directly and confidentially to an administrator or moderator whenever reasonably possible.
No member will be penalized, retaliated against, harassed, threatened, removed, or treated adversely for making a good-faith report or assisting administrators with a legitimate review of potential misconduct.
The identity of a reporting member will be kept confidential by the Administration to the extent reasonably possible, although complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed when disclosure is reasonably necessary to investigate, address, or respond to the matter or is required by law.
Whistleblower protection applies to reports made in good faith, even when an investigation ultimately determines that no violation occurred.
However, knowingly making false accusations, intentionally providing misleading information, fabricating evidence, or using the reporting process to harass, retaliate against, intimidate, or damage another member is itself a violation of these rules and may result in disciplinary action.
Retaliation against a member believed to have reported misconduct is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate suspension or permanent removal from The Dial Society.
11. Follow Administrator and Moderator Direction
Administrators and moderators are responsible for maintaining the quality, safety, integrity, and character of The Dial Society.
Members are expected to comply with reasonable moderation requests.
Attempts to circumvent moderation decisions, interfere with an investigation, intimidate members or administrators, retaliate against reporting members, or return under alternate accounts after removal may result in permanent removal.
Moderation decisions will consider both the specific wording of these rules and their overall purpose. Attempts to exploit technicalities or loopholes to circumvent the rules may themselves be treated as violations.
Enforcement and Termination of Community Access
The Dial Society LLC reserves the right to remove content and to restrict, suspend, or terminate a person’s participation in The Dial Society community when the Administration determines in good faith that:
* The person has violated these Community Rules;
* The person has engaged in harassment, intimidation, retaliation, improper solicitation, fraud, dishonesty, threats, or materially disruptive conduct;
* The person’s continued participation presents a reasonable risk of disruption, harm, harassment, misconduct, or interference with other members; or
* Continued participation is materially detrimental to the legitimate interests, operations, safety, reputation, or integrity of The Dial Society or its community.
Depending on the nature and severity of the circumstances, enforcement may include:
1. Removal of a post or comment
2. A warning
3. Temporary restriction or suspension
4. Permanent termination of community access
These measures are not required to be imposed sequentially.
Serious misconduct may result in immediate suspension or termination without a prior warning.
Repeated violations after a warning may result in permanent termination of community participation without additional notice.
Nothing in these Community Rules guarantees a warning, hearing, appeal, progressive discipline, or any particular disciplinary procedure before community access is restricted, suspended, or terminated, except to the extent otherwise required by applicable law.
The Dial Society Administration retains final discretion regarding the interpretation and enforcement of these Community Rules, subject to applicable law.
All enforcement decisions will be made without unlawful discrimination and in accordance with applicable law.
No Right to Continued Community Participation
Participation in The Dial Society community is separate from a person’s status as a customer of The Dial Society LLC.
Purchasing a product or service from The Dial Society LLC does not, by itself, create a right to participate in or remain a member of The Dial Society community.
Termination of community participation does not create an ownership, voting, management, or other interest in The Dial Society LLC.
Our Standard
The Dial Society should be a place where members can enjoy watches, learn from one another, share their collections, and participate in thoughtful conversations without unnecessary hostility, inappropriate material, harassment, spam, outside commercial promotion, or solicitation.
By participating in The Dial Society community, you agree to uphold these standards and help preserve the quality, safety, and integrity of the community.
